What is the difference between a “dead three” and “dead four”?  What is “dumping”?  Want to know exactly what we mean when we refer to a “closed board”?  We’ve compiled a glossary to familiarize you with Quinto’s most commonly used terms and phrases.

Ace of Spades Quinto® The Ace of Spades Quinto®, which may be worth as much as 90 points, includes the Ace of Spades and four other cards.
Black Kings Primarily used for offensive play, the Black Kings allow a player to ADD a playing chip on any open space on the Quinto® board.
 
Blocking Playing a card and placing a chip on the board to obstruct an opponent's attempt to form a Quinto.
Bonus Corners The four spaces located at the corners of the Quinto® board.  These spaces can be captured by the player or team who first secures four adjoining spaces to form a Quinto.
 
Crazy Quinto A version of Quinto based on the card game, Crazy Eights.
Closed Board A situation when there are no open spaces remaining on the board to place a chip.
Common Quinto® The lowest scoring Quinto (25 points), uses only non-face cards.
 
Corner Quinto® A Quinto which uses the 7, 8, 9, 10, and the bonus space.
 
Crowning When a Quinto is obtained (five same color chips in a row), the chips are crowned by placing white chips on top of the five contiguous chips.  Once crowned, these chips cannot be removed.
Cut-Throat This variation of Quinto is played with three players/teams and three different color chips, one for each player/team.  The player or team with the most points at the end of five rounds wins.
 
Dead Three Three of the same color chips in a row with an opponent's chip (or edge of the board) on either side.  No possibility of a Quinto.
Dead Four Four of the same color chips in a row with no possibility of a Quinto.
Discard Pile Cards already played that are placed face up in front of each player.
 
Double Quinto® Two Quintos are formed simultaneously using one chip.  Extra points are attained (see Table 2, Quinto Point Values).
 
Draw Pile Cards placed face down on the playing board to be drawn.
 
Dumping The act of playing a card in a seemingly illogical or disconnected manner in order to pursue a Quick Quinto®.
High Five A variation of Quinto in which the first player or team to obtain five Quintos wins the game. This version may take more than one round.  (No points).
Hot Spots These are either specific squares or areas on the board that have excellent scoring opportunities.  Players are advised to look for these locations prior to the start of the game. Examples: Ace of spades, bonus corners, royal axis.
 
No-Draw This occurs when there are no cards left to draw from the Draw Pile.  The game continues without players drawing cards.
